Well, AJ has finally been stable with his diabetes. He is on 10 units of Caninsulin twice a day and his Oct 1st glucose curve pleased the Vet no end. She said he should remain at that dose for 3 months and then another curve can be done (which AJ's ears will be thankful of). If he shows signs of the diabetes flaring up (like increased water intake and urinating) another curve should be done.

I am very pleased.

Only a few days to Oct 10...my 41st birthday!

It's been awhile, sorry. AJ is doing alright although I think his insulin levels will go up, as his blood glucose curve was not helpful. 17 to 24 is not the way it should be. 8 is normal. I called the levels in to the Vet, although I took them Aug 18th...I am in denial, I tell ya. She'll probably have a burk knowing I waited so long. I just don't want to give him 2 shots a day...my world will then revolve around his shots and what am I to do when I return to work (thats whole different story)?

6th Day of Insulin for AJ. He is at the Vets getting his Glucose Curve done. He has to stay there from 8am to 8pm. It is only $73 for the day. Thats not bad. I also have a big bag of Diabetic kibbles on hold. Good thing he likes them.

AJ is on his third day of insulin. He seems to be doing okay. He isn't drinking as much and his pee quantity is smaller. Oh how great it would be if he just needed one shot a day instead of 2. His glucose curve is set for Aug 2nd. I also need to get batteries for his glucose meter so I can check his blood glucose level myself.

Ok...AJ has Diabetes and the blood work confirmed it. His liver enzymes are up but that is totally reversible with treatment. I am going to the Vet at 3PM to learn how to give AJ his daily insulin and then in 7 days, he has to go in for a blood glucose curve.

If you understood any of that, you would be a Dr or something.

AJ (my kitty) has diabetes. Blood tests and Urine test done Friday. He was so good at the vet. No problems there. They could tell by his urine that it was full of sugar (maybe they used ketone sticks).

Will wait for all the results and the needles, insulin, diet. (sob...sniff)

I am taking AJ to the vet this afternoon, 3pm MST (see clock on the right). I will give all the gruesome details when I get home. I hope it's good news - on all fronts.

The kitties are hungry because I took the foods away as AJ shouldn't eat anything before his blood tests. KC isn't impressed and I can't feed her as AJ is hanging around all sniffy and meowing. Poor babes.

Edit: I made another appointment for Friday at 3pm as I couldn't get in touch with anyone to help!

I finally made the dreaded call to the Vet about AJ (and his weight loss and increased water consumption and urination) and they strongly suspect Feline Diabetes .

The cost to get the tests, etc will likely exceed $300 and then maybe more for supplies (just so you know...I have no income except my disablity cheque...nothing else til I get back to work!). They said it is a choice between that and putting him to sleep....sniff.

Please say a little prayer...I am bringing him into the vet at 4pm MST today. I hope I bring him home.

There was a huge spoiler posted "somewhere" on the internet. Bloomsbury "found" it. Poster was "harassed". Spoiler now gone. Justice served.

Seriously, this person who claims to love Harry Potter (one of those nutters who like fan fiction about Harry/Darco/Snape love fests) posted a huge spoiler, and then was surprised that JK Rowling found out about it. They claim a "troll" did it (some stranger that reads journals/blogs without being a member) but they forget some fans do not want to be spoiled ....especially with a few days away from reading a book.

So thank you Bloomsbury, Christopher Little Literary Agency, and Rain Coast books for working so quickly against the bad people.

(I refuse to give links or anything else regarding the above as they are infringing on the injunction placed by JK Rowling and assoc, therefore I will never stoop that low)

I am watching A & E, and they are doing a biography on Melissa Gilbert. She starred in The Miracle Worker in 1979. A big movie for her, but more so, the reason I became interested in working with the handicapped.

I became facinated with the manual alphabet and read Helen Keller's book and learned the alphabet while in Grade 10. Soon, that facination drew me to the Elves Memorial Child Development Centre, a segregated school for multiply and severely handicapped children. As a high school student, we were recruited to volunteer at lunch hour to assist with feeding and playing with the kids (some almost 15 themselves!)).

That was the beginning of my career.

Last week, the Edmonton Journal reported the loss of three fishermen after a storm on a Alberta lake. Two of those men were Derek Woodman, 45 and his son Daniel, 24. Derek is the older brother of my old school friend, Neil (who commited suicide back in 1983/84). I was extremely shocked at the news and I send my prayers out to the whole Woodman family and his mom, Pat, in particular as she is my mother's very good friend. Below is a picture of Neil. I took lots of pictures in school and Neil was always kind enough to pse for me!

I just bought "The Incredibles" tonite. My big spend (after replacing my Palm Tungsten that is). I can't wait to snuggle in bed and watch it again. I loved it.

Did I mention I had to replace my Tungsten T3 because the ear phone jack became wonky? I couldn't get another T3 as they don't make them any more and they wouldn't give me a replacement while it was being fixed, so I had to upgrade to the T5 which was okay but then they had none and when I finally got one from Red Deer last week end, I had to fork out $267 instead of $50 because they are selling the T5 with a WiFi pack and my old warrenty was no longer good for the new unit (they said it would be). So that was my BIG spend and the Incredibles DVD is my small spend.

I have been enjoying Harry Pottering lately and I realized that my love of books and fantasy come from a great source, my brother Adrian. I was looking at some old paperbacks by Katherine Kurtz and of course, my name and date of reading it are in the front cover. It was around 1986 that my brother introduced me to her books. He told me I might enjoy them. I did. So much so, that I bought my own set (she did trilogy's). I then remembered how he would tell me about certain comic books and I would read them and get so involved, I would buy them too. Before Harry Potter, there was the New Teen Titans, Katherine Kurtz' World of the Deryni, Camelot 3000, Stephen King and too many TV shows and movies to mention.

So I would like to thank you, Adrian, for widening my view of the world and the stuff I read and watched. My world has always been a better place with you in it, but it's even brighter with the love you have shown me and sharing the joy of books and art with me. Love you, Bub!

What a Mess

Well, I cleaned out one of my extra bedrooms today. Now I have just one more to go. They were acting as spare closets with lots of garbage (see any episode of Dr Phil or Oprah on "My God...How Can They Live In That Filth?!"). I'll post the before and after pictures later today if I find the time. One thing I can't understand is how I had so much junk in a one bedroom apartment and it seems I have so much more in a 3 bedroom townhouse with a full basement?? Well, at least there were no beasties living it up in the mess...I may have junk but not gross moldy crap that breeds kneazles and basilisks.

Well I have started my Chapter a day blog-a-rama for Harry Potter. But I admit, I am re-reading Goblet of Fire and Order of the Phoenix seriously, and just reading the others for commentary. I don't find Book 1 very exciting, but then I am not 10 years old either. I cannot imagine a 10 year old reading Order of the Phoenix and getting it. They may be entertained, but only an adult can understand the complexity of the story and characters. But then, kids are pretty grown up nowadays. Not like when I was 10 back in '74. Sigh.

Hi. I have been feeling rather low lately, mainly some frustration with this stupid forum board I go to all the time, the Harry Potter one. Then I have also joined an creepy forum that has alot of disturbing stuff. Being a moron, I used my "buffytheslayr" moniker which was a mistake. I made the mistake of posting my frustrations with the HP board on this creepy board. The other posters turned on me and posted my profile from the HP board plus my URL to THIS BLOG!!! You can imagine my anxiety level went up 300%. These people on the creepy board are vicious and I was scared that they would post on the comments and tag board (which I have removed until I think it's safe to re paste it). So you can see that I am a wreck. I always get in trouble when I spend too much time on the internet, so I am going to shut down the computer, go work out with my best friend and then read some good books (maybe even non-horror, non-Harry Potter type book)

P.S I complained to the the Admin of the creepy board about the violation and within minutes, the post was deleted.

There is a group called Freecycle that is all over the place-North America and International! You give stuff away to people who want it. No bartering, no bids, just give stuff to people. I first thought I had nothing to give as I like all my junk but then I realized I had a cellphone, a gameboy and a Nintendo 64 gathering dust, and they worked fine. I posted them and it feels so nice to give people stuff they really want. Check it out at Freecycle and see if there is one in your neck of the woods.

I mentioned that I did not have the DVD of "Fallen" and I just discovered that I do (as if I had so many DVD's, I lost it in the west wing of my spacious flat I call home). So I stand corrected if I was questioned by the RCMP about burning DVD's in my basement for profit (did I say that???)

Well. the vet visit went ok. KC looks like she was hached with an axe (the Glenora did a great job with dematting-she looked really good) but she survived the appointment and thats what counts. They also said her teeth looked fine and didn't need extraction (I was told 2 lower teeth may be absessed and need extraction-$600 job!)

I am just glad she's home safe.

I am going to take KC back to the vet today at 10:30 am. Hopefully it will go much much better than Tuesdays trip. I am going to hang aroud the vet office while they demat her, etc so if I am needed they can get me right away. I am very anxious about this and I will report back to tell you all how it went. I took KC to the Vet today to get dematted and other stuff. It never got done and poor baby was hiding under dirty equipment 3 hours later when they called and said they couldn't do it today. My poor baby!

This isn't helping my anxiety at all. They said they'll do her on Friday and have her sedated while I am there. Hopefully KC will never remember any of it. As for now, she is very sad!

Boxing Day vs Black Friday

I just found out that the day after American Thanksgiving is called Black Friday. I was told recently that the day after American Thanksgiving is the biggest shopping day of the year. Here in Canada, we have the UK Boxing Day which is our biggest shopping day of the year.

Only a Yank would call the biggest shopping day of the year "BLACK FRIDAY" as if it was some death holiday (thats what I thought it was until I looked it up on the 'net)

My brother (dear brother Bub as I call him) has been having a hard time of late and Xmas was extremely difficult for us all as we are not used to seeing him ill (thats my job). He finally got his meds changed but I wish he had a psychiatrist looking after them instead of a GP. To help him and others, here is my medication cocktail that changes abit every year around March (that seems to the time I would have a breakdown and go into the 72 hour crisis unit at RAH).

-Wellbutin SR 150mg x 1 at 8am and 4pm :
Prescribed to stabilize mood; clinical depression
-Clonazepam 0.5mg x 1 at 8am, 1pm and 4pm :
Anti-anxiety agent to calm and stabilize mood
-Seroquel 25mg x 1 at 10am and 5pm:
To stabilize mood swings due to BPD; anxiety (also used as a PRN for anxiety attacks)
-Seroquel 100mg x 1 at bedtime:
To assist with sleep; stabilize severe mood swings from BPD
-Gabapentin 300mg x 2 at bedtime:
Assists with mood swings; aleviate feelings of aggression; anxiety; help with sleep.

I was previously on Ativan 1mg but they felt I was on it too long for it to be effective. They replaced it with Seroquel (which is an anti-psychotic being used more for BPD and anxiety; and a mood stabilizer). Gabapentin is an anti-convulsant which is being used in Canada for anxiety and for patients who have strong feeling of aggression (thoughts to hurt oneself and others). Clonazepam is also an anti-convulsant which can be used for anxiety. Wellbutrin SR has replaced my previous anti-depressant of Paxil.

A & E's newest reality show, Caesar 24/7 is pretty good. As a recovering Compulsive Gambler - clean since Sept 21, 1999, it was hard to watch the show (the slots got to me-oh how I miss the Triple and Double Diamond machines at $3 a pop) but it was neat to watch an obviously rich lady go crazy at the roulette table (I think that's what it was) who turns out to really be a singer (she said she was but lots of people say that). Spending Is My Middle Name

I got myself a Xmas present on Boxing Day (that's Canada's big day to shop-Dec 26!). I bought a new computer (yes, that means I now have 3 computers). I wanted one that would play graphics heavy games like Sims 2. I love the 'puter although it is crashing when I play The Sims 2. I think something is amiss with the nVidia graphics card, but at least I can play a few minutes of the Sims which is 2 hours equivlant of what it did on my other computer (see, it evens out). Oh well, I am still happy with this quick little puppy. It's a AMD Athlon XP 3200+ (2,2 GHz) with a DVD RW (I burned my first illegal DVD yesterday!) and a 160 GB hard drive; 512+512 MB RAM and NVidia GeForce 4 graphics card with another AGP slot to boot (when I decide to upgrade). I was even able to attach my old hard drive onto the computer, so I have all my old stuff too. I am glowing with Matrix love :-)
